Indigenous communities

Digital Health Circle seeks to empower Indigenous communities to co-create opportunities that further the improvement of health for their elders and knowledge keepers, and to foster healthy aging through co-creation of new digital health technologies.

Digital Health Circle’s values are to develop and safeguard the trust elders have placed with us to share their knowledge.  We acknowledge the significant health issues within these vibrant cultural communities, including chronic illnesses, mental and physical disease, and substance abuse far greater than non-marginalized groups.

At Digital Health Circle, we practice culturally safe and ethical research models in our work with Indigenous Communities. This includes the Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession (OCAP) Principles, particularly those related to the collection and use of health research data.

Digital Health Circle’s relationships include local and remote First Nations communities in BC, Surrey Aboriginal Group of Elders (SAGE) Society, Aboriginal Learning Surrey School District 36, and Indigenous health care leaders. As our Indigenous relationships grow to include more community members, so does our commitment to support a healthier future which we hope will also aid in healing the past.

If you are interested in participating or learning more about our collaborations with the First Nation, Métis, and Inuit communities of British Columbia please email our Community Engagement and Indigenous Relations Specialist, Morgan Jacko.
